What is Sweat Makes Cents?
Sweat Makes Cents is a movement dedicated to empowering girls through fitness. Childhood obesity disproportionately affects minority communities: African American and Hispanic children ages 2-19 are 30% more likely to be overweight or obese than their white counterparts. (*National Institute of Health, 2021.)

Obesity in childhood doesn’t just affect physical health; it can have long-term consequences on overall well-being:

-
Health Risks:
-
Increased likelihood of developing chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension at a young age.
-
Greater risk of mental health issues, including low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression.
-
-
Academic Impact:
-
Children who are overweight or obese may experience fatigue, difficulty concentrating, or absenteeism, affecting their academic performance.
-
-
Community and Generational Impact:
-
Without intervention, these disparities perpetuate cycles of poor health across generations.
